This last week they did a puppet show, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. Also they had a lady visiting from The USA, Christina, tag along on their visit. The kids love the visits and always have smiles on their faces when we come.

Today the SALT team ran the weekly project, Isidima. We were able to see 45 women today who all received counselling and a food parcel. Just for today, Doreen Mugendi, who works at Stellenbosch University, ran a breastfeeding clinic for all the new mothers. She educated the women on the correct way in which to breastfeed especially those with HIV. Doreen was able to advise and help a lady who's baby has a cleft palate by showing her how to feed the baby correctly until she sees the doctor in March.

In October 2011,Thumeka, a young girl from Dunoon came to SALT looking for help. After chatting with her for a while, the SALT staff found out that she wanted to give her 3 month old baby girl up for adoption. She saw it as the only soultion because she just couldnt look after the baby anymore and wanted a better life for her. So SALT decided to help her by paying for the baby to go to creche and offered Thumeka domestic job. She finished working there at the beginning of January to start an Educare course: first aid, domesitic work and child care. The SALT staff are happy to announce that Thumeka is almost finished with the course and will soon be getting her certificate. They also realised that she had a problem with her eye sight so they took her down to Torga Optical in Pick ‘n Pay near Bayside to have her eyes tested. Torga Opitcal have now graciously sponsered Thumeka with a new pair of glasses. Over the last two weeks Thumeka has now become an interpreter at the SALT project Isidima and has kept her beautiful baby girl.

As the year draw to a close, we'd like to thank the amazing volunteers and partners that have assisted us in anyway throughout this year. SALT could not impact the lives and reach the people that we do, were it not for all the help and donations that we receive. From the bottom of our hearts - thank you, and happy holidays!

Below are a few photos from our annual Isidima Christmas party, where we were able to bless around 200 ladies and 100 kids - once again, with the help of our wonderful volunteers and donors! The party consisted of worship, a sermon from our own Mama Lillian [owner of our Enozipho Creche in Joe Slovo], lunch for the ladies and their children, wo also enjoyed a play area and party packs, and a light bag and gift to each woman.

The concept for moyo Models for Africa was conceived in 2006 as a direct result of the obvious needs of our local impoverished communities.

moyo Models for Africa is a glamorous evening encompassing a gathering of South African celebrities, personalities and models, who have one common goal - “To raise funds for the less fortunate”.

The thrilling evening, hosted on Saturday, 5 November at the spectacularly located moyo, Eden on the Bay, with its unhindered view of Table Mountain and breathtaking sunsets, was an enormous success.

The event began with vibrant African jazz, performed by talented musos Vuyo Sotashe and Morne Khats. Guests were treated to moyo’s lavish three course dinner, complimentary wine & soft drinks. A gorgeous fashion show with beautiful, well known models followed, with garments shown by top South African designers - Cindy Bam, Label Femme, House of Silk, Nazir and more. Other talented musos , Evelyn Hart and Matt Roux, performed throughout the night. Roxy Ingram, moyo Models for Africa patron, was this year’s Master of Ceremonies and 5fm’s Danger Boy concluded the glamorous evening with the auctioning off of artwork, designer dresses, diamond jewellery and other exotic items.

Guests were spoilt with fabulous giveaways throughout the evening, such as Versace sunglasses, Sisley handbags, hair and makeup vouchers, and so much more.

‘We are extremely excited about this social upliftment event. This year’s event raised R76 850. All proceeds will be distributed to our main beneficiary, SALT.” Roxy Ingram – moyo Models for Africa Patron.

On behalf of SALT, we want to thank everyone that was involved - the committee, sponsors, models, designers, and not least of all, those that supported and attended our event!

Below is the media coverage released for moyo Models for Africa:
